Chattri Writing Group

I first wrote about the Chattri in 2018 but it has been on my mind for much longer. My first piece about the place, One Lesson, was published in Hidden Sussex (Writing Our Legacy, 2019).

I later worked with Brighton Dome to create a workshop to explore the history of the Chattri and its links to Brighton’s most famous landmark, the Royal Pavilion estate, which served as a military hospital for Indian soldiers wounded in France during the first year of World War I.

Participants from the first workshop make up an ongoing, occasional writing group. We are women of South Asian heritage writing together to explore the weave of personal and family stories with the many legacies of empire.

We See You Now

We See You Now is a collective of writers and creatives from the Global Majority nurtured by Alinah Azadeh since 2020. My involvement has blessed me with creative contact with many extraordinary human beings.
